The school was established by Mukono Hand in Hand Uganda (HIHU) which is a CBO that started in 1987 by a team of volunteers from Norway to improve the quality of life of persons, families and vulnerable communities in Uganda and Mukono Municipality in particular.
HIHU uses a community empowerment approach aimed at stimulating social-economic change in the population, by mainly focusing on actions that directly improve the lives of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized communities in Mukono Municipality.
Hand In Hand Special Needs School was established on February 18, 2003, by Norwegian friends and acquired licence on 18th/10/2023 to 18th/10/2023 through the memorandum of understanding between HIHU and Mukono Municipal Council with the aim of helping children with special needs acquire decent education.
The school is progressing on well with a special needs teaching team of 10 staff one per class and none teaching team of 2 cooks, 2 cleaners, 2 matrons, 1 full time nurse on maternity leave and 1 stand in nurse from February to end of April, 3 security guards and 4 classroom support volunteers.
Most of our pupils still finish the year with huge fees balances and lack mandatory requirements to keep them in school simply because they come from humble backgrounds and many parents abandon them at school.
